STUDI KAIROS is a Center for Psychology and Psychotherapy for adults, childhood and adolescence
We all face many different challenges across our life span: from learning how to walk, eat and go to the toilet independently when we are children to becoming parents ourselves for the first time; from making new friends to losing old ones; from choosing the “right” partner, job or school to letting them go; from making plans for the future when we are young to looking back to find the meaning of our whole life when we get older.
Usually, with the right resources, you can transform such challenges into amazing opportunities for personal development and growth. However, there are times in which you feel too overwhelmed to deal with your problems on your own. There are also times in which you might lose contact with your feelings as well as control over your thoughts and actions, and that might scare you.
Transforming challenges into personal growth opportunities
You are not alone, though. We all face these kind of psychological difficulties: according to the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health and the World Health Organization, nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a psychological problem (46.6 million in 2017) and 1 in 4 people are suffering from mental health issues around the world.
For instance, some people are struggling to cope with a traumatic experience or with a stressful situation at work, at school or in their family. Others suffer from depression, anxiety, panic attacks, mood swings and other emotional disturbances that interfere with their everyday life and make even simple tasks like reading a book or going to the supermarket difficult -if not impossible- to perform. Some people might be having thoughts and experience feelings that are scaring them because they seem to come from nowhere, while others might know what they want, like losing weight or quitting smoking, but they don’t know how to accomplish that.
Therefore, asking for help to a skilled professional is the first step in taking ownership of your own life towards personal growth and psychological well-being.
Seeking help is the first step towards personal growth, ownership and well-being
As you know, relationships can be stressful and cause you pain. However, they can also heal you. That’s what psychotherapy is about: treating psychological problems through communication and relationship factors between an individual and a trained mental health professional.
In addition to “talk”, during therapy sessions the professional might use other tools like, for instance, painting, drawing, photography, play, hypnosis, relaxation techniques, EMDR, dance and movement depending on the client’s unique needs and resources, as well as the agreed goals of the therapeutic treatment plan.
Psychotherapy in English available – Florence – Private Psychotherapy Practice
Since our approach is integrative, in our private practice we offer highly individualised psychotherapeutic treatments to individuals (children, adolescents, adults), couples, and groups by adapting the whole therapy -and the tools used- to the distinctive characteristics and needs of each client as well as to the singularity of her/his context.
Our treatments are usually time-limited, focused, and occur:
Once a week for 50 minutes per session (individual sessions)
Twice a month for 75 minutes per session (couples)
90 minutes per session for EMDR treatments (frequency TBD,)
However, we will discuss with you the duration and frequency of your treatment plan based on your individual resources, needs and goals.
In our private practice in Florence we offer one-to-one psychotherapeutic treatments for children, teenagers and adults, couple therapy, parenting counseling, and EMDR therapy.
Depending on the clients’ resources and individual needs we might use different techniques such as drama, narrative story, music, movement, and visual arts (photography, drawing).
We also organize relaxation groups, as well as personal development and positive psychology activities through visual arts, dance and movement.
OUR MISSION: Working in partnership with the client and offering individualized treatments.
We always select and recommend a treatment approach that is known to be well-suited for addressing our patient’s needs and concerns, and we will tailor our procedures to fit each individual patient’s personality style and life circumstances.

Accessing memories and promoting self-healing
EMDR is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma.
It is a form of therapy that focuses on memories of traumatic and/or stressful experiences that can contribute to mental disorders or psychological problems and enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.
Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. EMDR psychotherapy uses a structured protocol for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as well as other disorders and related past experiences that trigger emotions, beliefs, sensations, that are no longer functional for the well being.
To date, EMDR has helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress. In EMDR therapy, pathology and psychological as well as emotional difficulties are seen as based on unprocessed memories that are stored in the same way as they were experienced. Irrational beliefs or negative behaviors, are seen as reactions to past events, they are not the cause of the problem but rather the symptom. Using the detailed protocols and procedures taught in certified EMDR therapy trainings, clinicians learn how to help clients activate their natural capacity to process these experiences and overcome trauma in a constructive way.
EMDR can help accept experiences that have had a negative impact in life and move forward with a positive, hopeful perspective, while increasing a sense of personal strength, the ability to address difficulties assertively and be willing to engage in life and be free of making choices. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal.
EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.
Given the worldwide recognition as an effective treatment of trauma, EMDR therapy is effective in treating the “everyday” memories that are the reason people have low self-esteem, feelings of powerlessness, and all the myriad problems that bring them in for therapy.
